 Hernandez lands his left |
Margarito Hernandez and Gerardo Esquivel both entered the semi main event riding a two win streak. Because neither man has been shown to carry knockout power, this was going to be a fight of style and boxing know how.
Esquivel took control of the fight in the first round as he fought from the center of the ring and kept Hernandez in front of him. From there Esquivel was able to land body shots to score. Hernandez was patient and threw a few counter punches, though he spent most of the round avoiding getting hit. Hernandez turned the tide in the second round as he took the position in the center of the ring and began to land body shots. As the round drew to an end, Esquivel was able to land a hard shot to Hernandez’ head.
The third round was close, though Hernandez may have gained an edge by landing a few more body shots. Esquivel countered those by landing shots to Hernandez chin even though he had his back on the ropes. Hernandez threw and landed more punches in the fourth round. Esquivel was able to land some left-right combinations, but he spent more time moving away from Hernandez’ body assault.
The final round was another that was close. Hernandez continued to keep the pressure on while Esquivel, though on the move, looked to land hard body shots.
After five rounds one judge scored the fight 48-47 for Esquivel, the other two scored it 48-47 for Hernandez who would claim the split decision victory.

Brandon Colantonio is a heavyweight fighter who has lost but once while fighting much more like a man at a lighter weight. He doesn’t look to land a punch that will knock out an opponent, instead he patiently looks to break down the man across the ring. James Sears entered the bout looking for this first win after coming off a majority draw in his last outing.
The pace of the opening round was relatively slow. Though Colantonio threw more punches, the majority of the round, for both men, was spent trying to create some space to throw and land a heavy body shot. Colantonio was able to keep Sears moving in the second round, mostly at the end of a jab that caught Sears moving in. Sears did try to close the distance between the two, and from there land shots to Colantonio’s body.
Colantonio was able to land body shots in the third round, and Sears attempted to lessen the damage of those punches by stepping in close and firing shots at Colantonio’s ribs.
Sears did not answer the bell to begin the fourth round, giving Colantonio the win due to retirement.

Sanchez loads up his right
| Alonzo Sanchez, as an amateur, lost in the Golden Gloves final in 2024 in the heavyweight division. He dropped to a cruiser weight to fight as a professional, and brought an unbeaten record in to the ring to face Abraham Martin, a man looking to get back to winning fights after starting his professional career with two big knockout wins.
When the bell sounded to open the fight, the men met in the center of the ring and both threw a number of fast and hard punches. There were lefts to the body followed by rights to the head. Sanchez may have gained an edge in the round by controlling the action. In the second round Sanchez stood in close to Martin to negate his height and reach advantage. Martin spent much of the round with his back to the ropes.
The third round was much like the close of the second as Martin spent it with his back to the ropes and Sanchez stayed close, shooting body shots. There were moments when Martin was able to create some space and in so doing he landed a few scoring punches. Martin worked to shake free of Sanchez’ pressure in the fourth round and thus creates some distance to land shots. At times he was successful, but those moments were short lived as Sanchez moved in tight to close the distance and create more pressure.
After four rounds all three judges scored the fight 40-36 for Sanchez who would remain unbeaten with the unanimous decision.

Avetisyan’s frustration with the head butts grew in the third round, and though the referee acknowledged he would watch, Avetisyan was not convinced.
