The main event of the evening was a rematch pitting heavyweights Carlos Ortega and Ersera Iosefa in a five round bout. The last time these two met Iosefa walked out with the win. The winner of this fight would claim the Arena Wars belt.The action in this fight was much different than the previous bout as the men fought in the center of the ring rather than leaning on the ropes. The weapon of choice in the round was the jab and both men used it effectively, firing most of their shots at the other’s body. Iosefa landed a few more punches in the round. The pace of the second round was slower than the opener, and the men leaned on each other a bit more, however they still threw body shots while looking for an opportunity to shoot a punch to the other’s head.In the third round the jab continued to be the punch thrown most often. However, what stood out in the round was that Ortega lost his mouthpiece twice, and Iosefa threw a low blow that momentarily paused the action. Ortega opened the fourth round with a flurry of scoring punches, most of them coming from an overhand right. Iosefa answered with a few counter punches, but Ortega landed more punches in the round.The fight appeared even entering the final round which saw both men trade body shots. There were also moments when each of them looked to land a heavy shot to the other’s head.After five rounds one judge scored the bout 48-47 for Ortega, the second scored it 49-46 for Iosefa, and the third scored the fight 48-47 for Iosefa who would claim the win and wear the belt. |

The semi main event featured once beaten Anthony Alvarado fighting Luis Ininquez in five round super welterweight fight. Each round of the fight was closely contested.The opening round was a display of technical boxing skill. Each man fired their jab to set up the power punch. Alvarado, as the round reached the midpoint was doubling his jab and ended the round adding his right. The second round was close. Most of the action occurred in the center of the ring as each man looked to gain an advantage. Alvarado’s reach proved to be his biggest advantage in the round.After establishing that each of them could land scoring punches at the end of a jab, the third round say the men begin to shoot their right hand at the other’s chin. A few landed, and when in close, Ininquez found a target on Alvarado’s body and chin. Ininquez controlled the action in the opening minutes of the fourth round, but Alvarado shifted the momentum when he stepped in tight and landed a series of body shots.Alvarado continued to throw body shots in the fifth and in so doing he controlled much of the action until the waning moments when Ininquez began to land shots to Alvarado’s body.After five rounds all three judges scored the bout 50-45 for Alvarado who would claim the unanimous decision win. |

Thomas Turner faced Alonzo Sanchez in a five round battle of unbeaten cruiserweights. Turner entered with a height advantage, while Sanchez was slightly quicker.Sanchez answered the opening bell and charged across the ring and threw a number of punches at Turner. Staying in close while firing body shots enabled Sanchez to neutralize Turner’s height and reach advantage. After a minute of quick body punches, the pace settled mid round though Sanchez continued to stay close and work Turner’s body. Turner moved to create some distance in the second round, and when he did, he was able to use his reach and catch Sanchez as he stepped in close.Sanchez continued to press the action in the third round, and he was effective in fighting in close. Turner’s punch output slowed some in the round, and that added to Sanchez’s aggressive assault.Turner would not answer the bell to begin the fourth round as he appeared to have suffered a hand injury. Sanchez would claim the win due to Turner’s retiring. |

Pedro Torres made his professional debut facing Brandon Watley in a four round welterweight fight. Watley has been in tough in each of his four previous fights, so he knew how to deal with the power that Torres brough to the ring.Watley was the busier fighter in the opening round as he not only threw more punches, he landed at a fairly steady rate. Torres showed good footwork in moving away from Watley’s power hand. Torres had a solid second round as he settled into a rhythm while Watley’s body.The pace of the third round was a little slower, though Torres continued to throw body shots. When the two men were in close, Watley proved adept at landing counter punches. The closing round featured a lot of body shots. Torres appeared to gain a slight edge until Watley stepped back to create some distance and fired his right from effective angles.After four rounds one judge scored the fight even at 38, the other two scored it 39-37 in favor of Torres who would claim the majority decision win. |

Emmanuel Ojeda made his pro debut against Jose Nava Ayala in front of crowd that seemed to be overwhelmingly there to see him win.As might be expected in a fight where one man is making his debut and the other is looking for his first win, the opening moments of the first round were slow, but once Ayala landed his first punch, both men began to throw scoring shots. While Ayala threw his jab and worked to set up his right, Ojeda was looking to land combinations. Ayala controlled much of the action in the second round as he threw body shots that scored. Ojeda countered by closing the distance and throwing tight shots to Ayala’s body.Ojeda threw a number of combinations in the third round, and he was effective in doing so. When Ayala stepped in tight and threw to Ojeda’s body, Ojeda counter punched. There were a lot of punches thrown in the closing round, making it close. Ayala’s body shots kept Ojeda moving, but when he found an opening, Ojeda was able to land punches to Ayala’s chin.After four rounds one judge scored the bout even at 38, the other two scored it 39-37 in favor of Ojeda who could claim the majority decision. |

The super middleweight fight in which unbeaten Scottie Stockman faced Christian Aguirre, who had lost his last seven fights, showed that a match maker often knows that records mean little once the bell rings to start the fight.Stockman opening the fight looking to land heavy punches, both the body and the head. Aguirre moved well to avoid those punches while throwing body shots of his own. At the midpoint of the round Aguirre scored a knockdown when he caught Stockman with a solid right as Stockman was stepping in. The second round was close, though Aguirre scored landing hard shots. Stockman looked to land heavy shots, but Aguirre moved to avoid getting caught.Aguirre controlled much of the action of the third round by landing combinations to Stockman’s body. Stockman threw punches in answer, but too often he threw single shots. Stockman had a good fourth round as he was able to land some punches, but he did not match Aguirre’s punch count.While it appeared that the fight was over after four rounds, and Aguirre had unlaced his gloves, the discussion ringside was that this was scheduled for five rounds. So, Aguirre laced up, and the fight continued. Stockman was landing good punches and scoring in the early portions of the round, then Aguirre moved to find effective angles and he began to land to Stockman’s body. Stockman lost a point in the round when he tripped Aguirre. Stockman had been warned in a previous round about throwing his shoulder.After five rounds one judge scored the fight 47-46 for Stockman, the second scored it 48-45 for Aguirre, and the third scored it 49-44 for Aguirre who would return to the win column with the split decision. |

Ryan Bailey and James Sears stepped in to the ring for a four round heavyweight fight. Sears lost in his professional debut, and Bailey was looking for win after a string of losses.The opening round saw the men spend a lot of time leaning on the ropes. Sears was able to land a few more punches, mostly body shots, while Bailey threw his right, reaching over the top of Sears. Bailey fought much of the second round with is back on the ropes, but even so he was able to land some scoring body shots. Sears threw fewer punches than he did in the opening round though he continued to target Bailey’s body.Portions of the third round were productive for Bailey when he created some distance and used his reach to catch Sears stepping forward. As the round progressed the action returned to seeing the men lean on the ropes. In the fourth, much like the third, when Bailey created some distance, he was able to land scoring punches. However, as the round progressed the two men resorted to leaning on each other and that meant throwing short body shots.After four rounds all three judges agreed, scoring the fight even at 38 for a unanimous draw. |

Margarito Hernandez and Oscar Ariaga fought each other in January and Hernandez emerged with a majority decision win. The outcome of that fight hinged on a few punches.Ariaga controlled the action in the opening moments of the first round using his jab to keep Hernandez from getting close. When he was able to close the distance, Hernandez looked to land body shots. As the first round drew to a close, Hernandez landed a series of combinations. The second round was close. Hernandez looked to close the distance between the two and negate Ariaga’s reach advantage. There were a number of good exchanges at the midpoint of the round when both men were fighting on the ropes.Hernandez had a solid third round as he was able to pin Ariaga on the ropes and land a number of body shots. Hernandez continued to keep Ariaga on the ropes in the fourth, and that meant he landed more scoring punches.After four rounds all three judges agreed in scoring the fight 40-36 in favor of Hernandez who would claim the unanimous decision win. |
